Benefits of owning an electric car in Armenia
In 2026 an electric car in Armenia is exempt from VAT until 31 December 2026 (only for cars made after 31 December 2023), can come in duty-free within the EAEU quota, has had a lower vehicle tax since 1 April 2026 and runs on household electricity at 44.98 AMD per kWh by day. Charging is not licensed under energy law since the 2025 amendment. The VAT exemption has no adopted extension beyond 2026 in our sources.

What it costs to run
At home, adding 40 kWh costs about 1,800 AMD at the day tariff; on the EV Armenia network the same energy costs about 4,000 AMD at 100 AMD per kWh. One owner told JAMnews in 2025 that they spent 25,000 to 30,000 AMD a month on charging. That is a single account, not a statistic. Estimate your own with the calculator and read home charging.
Questions to ask before you buy
- Where will you charge? A parking space with a dedicated circuit changes the economics; see home charging and apartment charging.
- Which inlet does the car have? It decides which public stations you can use without an adapter; see connector types.
- What is the battery condition? For a used import, ask for a written report.
- What do insurance and service cost for this model? Ask local insurers and a service centre; we publish no figures.
- Which rule applies to your model year? The VAT exemption depends on when the car was manufactured.
Watch-outs
- The VAT exemption ends in the rules we found on 31 December 2026. A 2027 extension was reported as a plan; we found no adopted decision.
- Quota is limited. By early August 2026, 90% of the non-dealer portion was used.
- Infrastructure is concentrated in Yerevan. CivilNet counted more than 300 public charging points in Armenia around September 2025, over half in the capital. Plan trips with route guides.
- Connectors differ by the car’s country of origin; see connector types.
- Cold and mountains reduce range.
