What a charge costs: worked examples

Cost is energy times price. A car with a 60 kWh usable battery charged from 20% to 80% takes about 36 kWh. At 100 AMD per kWh that is 3,600 AMD before losses. If about 10% of the energy is lost as heat, the meter shows about 39.6 kWh and the bill is about 3,960 AMD. Put your own battery size, percentages and price into the charging cost calculator.

Charging at home is billed on your household tariff. The same 36 kWh costs about 1,619 AMD at the day rate of 44.98 AMD and about 1,259 AMD at the night rate of 34.98 AMD, before losses and without counting the cost of a wall charger. See home EV charging in Armenia.

For a real-life sense of scale, a JAMnews story from January 2025 quotes one EV owner who spent 25,000 to 30,000 AMD per month on charging. That is one person’s account, not an average.

Fees and prepayment besides the rate

  • Session fee and idle fee. Some stations add a fixed fee per session or a charge for leaving the car plugged in after it is full. In the EV Armenia app they appear on the price card before you confirm; an idle fee starts only after a grace period and has a cap.
  • A prepayment is a limit, not a bill. Whatever you pay with, the amount is charged at once and the final total is based on the energy you took. The unused part is refunded to your card, or kept as credit if you paid with Idram, Fastshift or the wallet. See payment methods.
  • Night tariffs. Team Energy states in its app listing that it applies a night tariff from 01:00 to 08:00 automatically. Check each operator’s app for its own rules.
