Planning around AC charging
- Overnight: the hotel points suit a night’s stay; plug in when you arrive and leave with a full battery.
- Shopping or a meal: the mall suits an hour or two, which adds a modest amount of range on AC.
- Connectors: the catalog shows which connector types each point has. Check that yours matches before you go; see connector types.
- Availability: open the app to see whether a connector is free right now.
From Yerevan and onwards
The road from Yerevan through Ashtarak to Gyumri continues to Bavra on the Georgian border, according to the list of Armenian highways on Wikipedia. If you drive from Yerevan, charge fully before you leave; Gyumri is a comfortable overnight stop. How long to stay and what it adds
Energy added is power times time. On AC the limit is the lower of the connector power and your car’s onboard charger. The catalog lists up to 21 kW on the strongest Type 2 point of the network, so a car with a 7 kW onboard charger takes roughly 7 kWh in an hour on a point of that power or more. As a rule of thumb many mid-size electric cars use 15 to 20 kWh per 100 km, so an hour on AC can add roughly 35 to 45 km for such a car. Your own car’s consumption is shown on its trip computer; use that figure rather than this estimate.
Altitude and winter
Gyumri lies at roughly 1,500 m above sea level and has cold winters. A cold battery gives less range and accepts power more slowly at first, so in winter allow more time, set off with a higher charge and, if you can, charge soon after driving while the battery is still warm. Check the forecast before the road from Yerevan.
