Charging Chinese EVs in Armenia
Chinese electric cars in Armenia can have either a GB/T inlet or a European-style CCS2 inlet, depending on the version exported, and imports are mostly Chinese according to press reports. Check the inlet before you buy a cable. The EV Armenia network has 2 GB/T AC connectors among 66; the rest are Type 1 and Type 2. GB/T DC does not fit CCS chargers without an adapter.
Know your inlet
BYD, Geely, XPeng and Li Auto are among the prominent brands in Armenia, and press reports describe imports as predominantly Chinese. No source we found gives the share of cars with GB/T inlets, so do not assume. Open the charge port flap and compare it with the pictures in your manual; see connector types in Armenia.
| Standard | Used for | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| GB/T 20234.2 | AC | Seven pins, similar in shape to Type 2 but with male and female sides reversed, so a Type 2 cable does not fit directly |
| GB/T 20234.3 | DC | Nine pins. Not directly compatible with CCS. Adapters exist, and a newer ChaoJi standard is in development |
| CCS2 | AC and DC | Fitted to some export versions of Chinese cars; works with Type 2 AC and CCS2 DC chargers |
Always use a cable or adapter made for your car and rated for the current. If you are not sure, ask your dealer.

Charging at EV Armenia stations
- AC with a GB/T car: 2 of our 66 connectors are GB/T, so you can plug in directly at those. At the Type 2 points you need a cable or adapter designed for GB/T. Filter the map by connector.
- AC with a CCS2 car: use a Type 2 cable at our Type 2 points.
- Speed: all our points are AC. Expect hours for a large battery.
- Price: 100 AMD per kWh.
Fast charging elsewhere
DC fast charging in Armenia comes from other operators. Team Energy’s app lists GB/T, CCS1 and CCS2 among its connectors, and Open Charge Map has an undated entry for a Sitronics Electro site in Yerevan with GB/T DC at 150 kW. Entries like this can be stale, so confirm in the operator’s app before driving there. For a comparison, see networks compared.
Questions to ask before you buy a cable
- Which inlet does this exact car have for AC, and which for DC? Versions of one model can differ by export market.
- What is the onboard AC charger rating? It caps your speed at any AC station, ours included.
- Is an adapter or cable included in the sale, and is it rated for the car’s current?
- Is the car’s software and charging screen available in a language you read? Menus for charge limits and scheduling are easier to use when you understand them.
When in doubt, photograph the charge port and the nameplate and ask the dealer or a service centre. A wrong cable is the most common reason a first session fails; the steps in how to charge assume the connector is already matched.
Buying a Chinese EV
In 2025 the official dealer E-auto (Hongqi) accounted for about 35% of EVs imported by official representatives, according to Armenpress. Duty, VAT and quota rules changed in 2025 and 2026; see import, VAT and quota. When you choose a car, ask which charging inlet the specific import version has, and whether the seller supplies the adapter.
Questions and answers
Which connector do Chinese EVs use?
Either GB/T or CCS2, depending on the version. Some cars sold in Armenia have GB/T. We found no figure for the share, so check your own car.
Can a GB/T car charge at EV Armenia?
Yes. 2 of our 66 connectors are GB/T AC; other points need a cable or adapter for GB/T.
Can I use a CCS charger with a GB/T car?
Not directly. GB/T DC and CCS are different. Adapters exist; use a reputable one and check compatibility with your car.
